Defender linked with Ibrox switch

Claims emerged today that Aaron Hughes is set to move to Glasgow Rangers in a deal that would see Jean Alain Boumsong move in the opposite direction.
Graeme Souness is unlikely to use a defender as a ‘makeweight’, especially not a defender that is comfortable in any position across the back four.

Hughes has found himself out of the first team following the form of Andy O’Brien and Robbie Elliot.  However, with the pair looking vulnerable at Birmingham last week a return to the starting eleven is imminent.

Having signed an extension to his contract recently Hughes is highly thought of at St.James Park.  The Northern Ireland captain graduated from the club’s academy in 1997 and made his debut in the Nou Camp against Barcelona.  He has went on to make over 200 appearances for Newcastle scoring 5 goals.
