Defence Looking Tighter?

We have endured troubled times in the past with Titus Bramble falling asleep for periods of the game; Steven Carr looking out of sorts as wingers fly past; and Celestine Babayaro not being bothered.

But Sam has re-built and re-modelled. The United boss handed a first Premier League start to Jose Enrique after the Spaniard came through a reserve game six days ago at Man City.

And after the speedy defender was handed the "thumbs up" from his old mate Laurent Robert on Friday, he produced the goods in the Premiership.

Allardyce: "It was Jose Enrique's first Premier League start. I was comfortable with him, and I hope he grows with the team.

"We had Claudio back again. He has terrific experience, which is what you need.

"Overall, it was a great performance and three great goals."
