De Jong Was Rubbish! Period!

... but he has revitalised his career after returning to Holland to play for PSV Eindhoven.

Physically he struggled and in 25 games in the top flight in England and Germany last season, he didn’t score once.

But the season before he was voted "The Worst Player In The German League" ... which is an honour(?) that must stand for something.

Why did Newcastle sign him when obviously he was in the worst form of his life?

Only Alan Pardew can answer that.

But prior to that, Borussia Monchengladbach signed him for £12million in 2012, something they bitterly regret.

Now he claims he was played out of position at Newcastle, but let's be honest ... a football pitch is 100yds v 50yds ... and was there ANY part of it where De Jong played well?

The fact remains, he wasn't good enough for the German league and he sure as hell ain't good enoug for the Premier League.

The Dutch league, which is probably on par with Scotland, is where he should stay.

Luuk de Jong: “It was a bit of a struggle.

“I worked very hard for the team, but offensive midfielder is not my natural position.

“I’m a striker, and my qualities are fit for that position, but of course I still always gave 100% every day. It’s hard to judge someone playing in an unusual position, but my focus is now on PSV and I am happy I’m back scoring goals.

“It was a great club, great fans and a great atmosphere. I’m also very happy for my brother Siem – he is playing for the Magpies. I wish him well with his injury and hope he recovers fast.

“Last summer it felt like a good decision to return to the Netherlands and it’s proven to be a very good one.

“I’m back on the pitch, playing in my best position, helping out the team where I can and scoring goals too. Also I got called up again for The Netherlands’ national team.

"At PSV the whole team has really good confidence after 20 wins in 23 league matches. It was the right choice for me, I am happy to be here and still have many goals to reach at this club.

"My opinion on Newcastle United is that it’s a great club and the fans deserve a team that’s aiming for the best possible results.”

“I wish Newcastle all the best. The team, including my brother Siem, needs the fans every match and I wish them well. I believe Newcastle has the most outstanding fans possible.”
