D-Day Passes At St James' Park!

The South African, based in Scotland, has been looking to buy the Magpies since the club were put up for sale by owner Mike Ashley ... but Cleland refused to disclose who else was forming the consortium.

Cleland declared his interest early on, only for a host of his countrymen to dismiss talk of involvement, while Keith Harris of investment bank Seymour Pierce - who are brokering the sale - questioned the seriousness of the bid.

Cleland: "We're hopeful of still doing a deal for Newcastle United very soon.
