Darlow revealed he has faced criticism on social media from Forest fans, who have questioned his focus this season, after he returned to the City Ground on loan following his £6.5m joint move to Newcastle with Jamaal Lascelles.

The goalkeeper has had a mixed season, starting off as No1 under Stuart Pearce before being dropped after a number of shaky performances.

It led to a criticism on Twitter of the 23-year-old, who won his place back at the weekend and is likely to be between the posts when Forest face Wigan tonight.

But he says his focus is only on Forest, as he aims to end his Forest career on a high by helping them back into the play-off places.

Karl Darlow: “I have not thought about being up at Newcastle, it has not crossed my mind. I have only been up there once. That is it.

“I keep getting tweets from people saying that my mind is up in Newcastle already. But it is not at all. I want to finish this season with Forest and I want to do well with Forest.

“Mentally, it has not been a problem.

“It is a strange situation to be in as a player. But the way I am mentally, I just want to play in every game and play as well as I can for Forest.

“For me, it is not going to be good if I play badly, is it? I want to play well in every game, I want to show the world what I can do.

“I said in the summer that I wanted to sign off by winning promotion with Forest and, while that is a long way off, if we can get a run of positive results going; if we can start to pick up momentum, anything is possible. We can still have a go at that.

“For now, all I want to do is play football, I think I have said that since the start, since my days in the academy.

“All I have ever wanted to do is play football and get out on the pitch. I love playing for this team and I just want to play for Forest.”
