Dalglish Has Little Faith In Toon Revival

Dalglish took over from Kevin Keegan as Newcastle manager back in 1997.

Keegan departed after seeing his side beat Man Utd 5-0 and Spurs 7-1, and King Kenny soon put THAT to right, and signed his old team-mates John Barnes and Ian Rush. Both of which were only a couple of years short of qualifying for a bus pass!

Rush couldn't even get into Leeds United's 3rd team! And after a season when Les Ferdinand and Alan Shearer scored 41 league goals between them, Dalglish's Newcastle side finished the season with Barnes as top goalscorer ... with 6 goals!

OK, history lesson over, so what has Dalglish been saying this week?

Liverpool's greatest ever player, has tipped Yossi Benayoun to be the man to inspire a serious title challenge from Liverpool this season. But admits the Reds will just fall short and Manchester United will regain the title.

Dalglish: "My old club Liverpool have had a busy summer and boss Rafa Benitez has pulled off some big transfers.

"Fernando Torres has come for a big fee and Ryan Babel looks full of promise but I believe their most impressive signing could turn out to be Yossi Benayoun, who gives them a dimension they have not had in midfield.

"If he can work his magic in midfield then the Liverpool punters will take him to their hearts. There was a question or two about how big an investment the new American owners at Anfield were willing to make but they have now put their money where their mouths are."

As for his old club Newcastle? A top ten finish, but nothing more.
