The transfer-listed defender suffered a broken arm and nose in the accident but claims that he won’t let it affect his football at what is a vital time in his career as he looks for a new club.

"I will be able to train properly in two or three weeks and I will be able to play football again in five or six weeks," he told The Journal.

"Starting playing again is something I'm really looking forward to - this has been a very difficult summer for me and I'm anxious to put it all behind me. The best way to do that is on the football pitch, that will be the best way for me to take my mind off things.

"I will be back in Newcastle for the start of pre-season training on July 14 and these injuries won't hold me back - I'm certain of that. My holidays have been ruined by the accident and now I want to get back to work."
