Cup Defeat Does Carver No Favours!

Last updated : 05 January 2015 By Footy Mad - Editor

The manner of the defeat upset many travelling supporters, and you can rule out Carver taking over the hot seat.

It is still unclear who picked the team, but some hacks claim Carver was not involved in the team selection.

Boos rang out at the King Power Stadium after their 1-0 defeat at the hands of the relegation haunted Foxes.

Carver was asked if it hurt him more due to his affection for the club after the game.

He said: “It does hurt more. It’s one of the toughest moments I have every experienced in football.

“But they are entitled to do that.

“I went with the players and I accept responsibility.”

Carver even said he would have booed himself after the dismal defeat.

He added: “Would I have booed? Yes, I would have done. I would have paid my money to get down to Leicester over the Christmas period, a lot of money, and if I had been in the stand then I would have booed because I would have been disappointed.

“We are out the FA Cup. We didn’t make the fourth round.

“Nobody wanted to get to Wembley more than me.

“It’s a fantastic feeling walking out there.

“I’ve experienced that and I wanted to do it again.

“You don’t get many chances.”

Carver explained there were plenty of players hurt by the exit at the first hurdle.

But he feels that some of the overseas players still don’t get the FA Cup.

He added: “I’m sure the guys who have been bought up on the FA Cup do (get it).

“Mike Williamson as a young guy was watching the FA Cup when they used to have a full day on the cup final.

“We had some young guys in there, we keep banging the drum to them on how important the cup is.

“Maybe one or two of the foreign lads don’t understand it.

“The longer they are at the football club they should surely understand it.”

When asked if he was ready for the job, Carver also added: “I’m not going to cower away from it.

“I am big enough and strong enough to say I would like this job.

“Everything I have ever gone into, I want to win and be the best. If I didn’t have the confidence in my own ability then I would just walk away.

“I wouldn’t throw my hat in the ring. I would just lie down.

“I have a five-and-a-half year deal at the football club, so I can stay here. “But I want to take the challenge and I’m prepared for it.

“If you have a bad performance you are going to be exposed.

“If you don’t play well or win football matches, you get exposed.

“That’s why they (the fans) vented their anger at the players.”

 CARVER - YES OR NO?

Do you want John Carver as Newcastle United manager?

John Carver will be in control for the FA Cup - insisting he will be going for glory against Leicester City in the third round tie.

The caretaker boss even joked he was eager to get to Wembley because he needs a new suit.

When asked of the importance of the competition to North-East fans, Carver - who went to Wembley in 1999 with Ruud Gullit and back again for a last four clash with Sir Bobby Robson - said: “Very.

“I’ve been to a final and semi-final.

“The ovation we got when we didn’t even win it against Chelsea was incredible.

“It was probably the best we played when we lost 2-1.

“It would be nice for people to go to Wembley.

“And nice for me because I need a new suit.”
