The start to Haidara’s Newcastle United career was not as memorable – although the defender did see his goalkeeper and another team-mate sent off!

The left-back, signed last week from French club Nancy, started in yesterday’s Under-21 3-1 defeat to Reading in front of an audience of about six men and a dog.

Haidara did travel with the first-team squad to the Midlands for Tuesday night’s game at Aston Villa, but didn’t feature.

The 20-year-old played almost an hour for United, captained by Paul Dummett.

The game saw goalkeeper Jak Alnwick and substitute Jamie Sterry sent off.

Meanwhile, JJ Hooper, Dennis Knight, Marcus Maddison and Michael Riley didn’t feature amid speculation the quartet have been released by the club.

NEWCASTLE UNITED: Alnwick, Kitchen, Haidara (Quinn, 53), Logan, Tavernier, Dummett, Campbell, Miele (Sterry, 66), Heardman (Mitchell, 40), Ferguson, Amalfitano.
