Fresh from a couple of setbacks in the Premier League in the last 10 days, The Black Cats' season got even worse with this 3-0 hammering.

The Hatters were ahead inside 16 minutes through David Bell and veteran striker Paul Furlong added the other two in each half for a comprehensive victory.

Worse was to follow as Sunderland even went down to 10 men when Greg Halford saw red for two bookable offences.

The other Premier League teams to tumble out were Derby County and Wigan.

The Rams drew 2-2 at home to Blackpool but were beaten 7-6 in a penalty shoot-out. Latvian defender Kaspar Gorkss was the Seasiders hero with late equalisers in normal and extra time. Michael Jackson netted the crucial spot-kick after Darren Moore had missed for Derby.

Hull emerged 1-0 winners at the JJB Stadium as Stuart Elliott struck the only goal on 31 minutes.

But before you suspect a gaff from Titus Bramble ... he was on the bench, and stayed there. NOT GUILTY!
