Alan Pardew's leading scorer has already missed the defeats by Sunderland and Chelsea and will be available once again for the home clash with Aston Villa on February 23.
Pardew also has injury problems, with central defender Fabricio Coloccini (knee), full-back Mathieu Debuchy (calf), midfielders Cheick Tiote (hamstring), Gabriel Obertan (knee) and Gael Bigirimana (ankle) all doubts.
But Yoan Gouffran (muscle strain) and Papiss Cisse (back) are expected to return.
