The youngster struck the first goal within 13 seconds of his arrival and Shearer's spot-kick sparked a Sunderland implosion. Charles N'Zogbia made it 3-1 on 67 minutes and substitute Albert Luque added a fourth at the death to seal a victory which pushed the Mags into seventh place.

Kevin Ball: "Up until their first goal, which in some respects, we gifted them, we played very well. In the end, no disrespect to Newcastle, but we beat ourselves!
