Chelsea Are A Disgrace To The Sport!

Did you know the bookies even took bets that Jose Mourinho would accuse Newcastle players of diving in the Carling Cup tie on Wednesday? Noe THAT is what Chelsea have done to the "Beautiful Game".

The Cockney Billionaires with an attitude. SKY TV's new "Entertainers". Never in my lifetime have I ever wanted Manchester United to win the league, but for the sake of the sport and sporting decency, I'm swayed that way this season.

Roeder and Mourinho had "words" on the touchline but the Magpies manager was adamant it was all good-natured.

Roeder: "We exchanged a few pleasantries - and they were pleasantries. I do not see why everyone has to know what was said every time two managers have a chat on the touchline. They were pleasantries.

"Mourinho talks about his players always having fighting spirit and they never lie down. Well, I feel the same way about my players tonight.

"They did not lie down and they fought as hard as they could. In the first half, we were the better side and were millimetres away from taking the lead with a shot from Martins which would have been a contender for one of the goals of the season.

"But it was not to be. The second half was more even. You might say their keeper did not have much to do, but to be perfectly honest, Shay in either game in the last week did not have too much to do either, which is testament to our lads."

The Chelsea players did everything to sway the game their way. Nothing new, I know that, but what do we do about it? Do we go down the same road, as blatant cheats, or try and bring some sort of respectability back to the sport?

As Mourinho's boys fell like flies, you had to admire Peter Ramage who took a kick in the face - was obviously in distress - yet rather than take a tumble try and get the player sent off he picked himself up and got on with it.

A credit to the player. But are we being naive? I'm starting to feel we are. Chelsea will continue to "buy" the title, and go to any lengths to get the top honours. And the only way to make football a "sport" again is for someone to stop them!
