Jack Charlton: "I would hope that if anybody is going to get the job when Alan finishes this season and Newcastle stay up I want it to be Alan.

"I'm like every other person in the North-East of England, they all want it to be Alan.

"I like Alan. He is a smashing lad, is very pleasant and has done OK for Newcastle.

"He has put his finger on the spots on what he wanted.

"If they can beat Fulham fine, then they have to go to Villa depending on how the other results go.

"So it's not only up to Newcastle, Its up to the other clubs that are battling to get out of it as well.

"There will be a lot of hard football matches to be played yet before anybody decides who is going where."
