To be honest, he was no loss when he went. Too small to be a good centre-back in the Premiership and too slow to hold his ground at full-back.

He was a success in the two-team Scottish League, but so was Roy Aitken (and we soon found out what a pile of shite HE was, as his arse fell out in the play-off games against the Mackems).

So what's he doing now? Well he's just knocked Scotland out of the World Cup ... that's what!

Scotland missed the chance to consolidate second place in World Cup qualifying Group Nine after slipping to a crushing 4-0 defeat to Norway.

The game turned on Gary Caldwell's second yellow card inside a minute, leaving his team a man down ... and a goal down ... with John Arne Riise belting home the resulting free-kick.

Afterwards Burley looked back on Scotland's 4-0 thumping and moaned: "Whatever could have gone wrong tonight went wrong.

"Up to the sending-off, I thought we maybe had the better of it as far as chances were concerned.

"After the sending-off, they scored straight from the deflected free-kick.

"We conceded one with 10 men right on half-time, and then it was an uphill battle."

Ah well ... poor Caldwell ... in tears again.
