The loan offer for Steven Taylor was snubbed because Mike Ashley wanted a cash only deal.
A loan deal would have seen Taylor see out his contract at Parkhead and he would have been free to move on next summer for no fee.
There have been reports Taylor has been frozen out by the club's hierarchy after turning down a contract offer, though fresh talks are now in the pipeline.
