He has been trouble right from the start.

Loaned to Preston, they kicked him out and sent him back without accepting the offer of keeping him for a further six months because of his attitude.

Next he was kicked out of the England Under-19 training camp before a game in Holland and sent home.

He allegedly attacked a woman 15 months ago ... and he was involved in a fight at the Bigg Market two weeks ago.

However, Bob Moncur feels that Carroll can be worthy of the famous No 9 shirt.

Bob Moncur : “Andy still has a good future in front of him – if he wants it enough.

“There have been plenty of players down the years who quickly learn what you can and can’t do.

“When Steven Taylor first broke on to the scene I was having dinner with him and I said to him that the most important thing to do when you are starting to establish yourself is to keep both feet firmly on the ground.

“There will be sacrifices that must be made along the way.

“Most young lads want to go out on a Thursday or Friday night and at the weekend, but when you are a footballer you can’t.

“It’s as simple as that – your career is short and you must make the most of every scrap of it.

“Once you finish your career in your 30s you can then do whatever you want.

“No matter where you go somebody will notice you.

“I’ve had it myself down the years.

“Even back then you got random people coming up to you and giving their 10p’s worth.

“Whether it’s about your current form or whether they feel they could have been a player themselves, they won’t hold back in giving you their opinions.

“You just have to make sure you get away from the situation.”
