The Daily Express and Daily Mirror both claimed on Saturday that a fee had been agreed for the Republic of Ireland full back, but Shepherd insists that he doesn’t know where the story has come from.
"I sign the cheques at Newcastle and I can categorically state that there is no deal for Carr," he said.
"It's absolute nonsense. The deal is total fantasy."
Recent signings have been characterised by refusals to comment about press speculation, but this denial seems fairly final.
