Shola Ameobi has long been a big joke as his "gangly style" (as Sir Bobby used to describe it) kept him behind the likes of Alan Shearer, Craig Bellamy, Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Mark Viduka.
To be honest, I never thought he would ever be a first team regular, but due to injuries (and lack of commitment) from certain individuals ... Shola has had is fair share of the action.
Although there were times when Owen and Viduka couldn't give a shit ... no-one can accuse Shola of lack of effort.
Ameobi: "It's something that hasn't happened often over the years but I'm delighted.
"I have finally got a chance to get a run in the team and to prove I can score goals. The last time was under Glenn Roeder, which was a very fruitful time for me because I was playing games.
"Hopefully I can stay fit and continue in this good vein of form."
