Caldwell staying put

Unless Nikos Dabizas’ United career receives an unexpected kick-start, Caldwell seems certain to face Charlton Athletic on Saturday and then act as cover for Andy O’Brien and Titus Bramble for the foreseeable future.

With the Scotland international keen to see some first-team action ahead of a seemingly certain summer move (to Barcelona according to the Sunday Sun!), a loan switch somewhere had appeared to be on the cards, even if Mick McCarthy wasn’t actually interested.

Sir Bobby though is confident that Caldwell won’t let us down at The Valley.

"Jonathan Woodgate could be out for three weeks because he has a tear in his hamstring and Steve Caldwell is going nowhere," he said.

"It's something I have to think about but at the moment that's what I have in my head.

"Caldwell says he is desperate for a game and he could get his chance on Saturday at Charlton.

"I have a lot of faith in him because he is a great competitor. He plays with a lot of courage and we know that he won't let us down."
