Calderwood Plays Down Alleged Toon Offer!

The former Scotland international was on Tyneside to take in United's 1-0 FA Cup defeat against Hull City last week but is believed to have been a guest of his former Spurs coach Chris Hughton.

Calderwood was sacked as boss of Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day and is hardly the sort of name many fans wanted to see linked with the club.

Calderwood: "I have been out of the country and just returned.

"I don't know anything about this.

"If I have been appointed as coach of Newcastle United then that is certainly news to me."

Joe Kinnear: "It's something I'm monitoring at the moment.

"We're both doing the best we can but there might be someone else comes in."
