Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had Cabaye convinced a deal was imminent last August, but (of all people) Joe Kinnear put the block on the move.
Wenger offered £8m, Newcastle's Mike Ashley told Kinnear to demand £20m ... and that was the end of it.
The 27-year-old went on strike, and it took the intervention of French coach Didier Deschamps before Cabaye got out from under the bed.
With Arsenal topping the Premier League table and looking to maintain their title push in the hopes of ending the club’s wait for silverware, Cabaye appears to be back on his compatriot’s radar as Wenger looks to add strength in depth.
Cabaye is desperate for the move, and with the World Cup in Brazil looming next summer, a January move seems most likely.
Wenger wants to get him to the Emirates before the Brazil showpiece, because his value could go through the roof if he plays particularly well.
I still don't believe he will match Ashley's valuation, but a price of between £15-17m would spark a deal.
