New signing has plenty to offer

Newcastle United completed their 3rd signing of the January transfer window on Sunday and while Bruno Guimaraes may not yet be a household name in football circles in England, he has been building up a highly regarded reputation in France.

The Brazilian international is seen as an energetic box-to-box midfielder and while he may not be a prolific goal scorer he is certainly an influential player in the final third of the pitch. This season to date he has made more passes in the attacking third of the field than any other player in the French top flight and also ranks well in other key factors such as fouls won and chances created.

The 24-year-old is reported to have signed a 4-and-a-half-year contract at St James’ Park and will join up with his new team after the current round of international matches as he is currently away with the Brazil national team. The contract is said to be worth £40M to his former club Lyon, dependent on some bonuses being achieved and it is not thought that a relegation clause is included in the terms of the contract.

With the transfer window closing on Monday 31st January at 11am, Newcastle are expected to be busy on deadline day, Jesse Lingard, Dan Burn and Matt Targett are among those who continue to be heavily linked with the Toon.
