Sir Bobby

"I would have been very angry having finished third and losing the last match to a team who have been relegated.

"That would have meant we were going nowhere. We didn’t have to lose and, while I have great sympathy for Albion, it would have meant that we had not approached the game in a proper fashion.

"Look at what Arsenal did at Sunderland today."

Gary Megson

"As soon as you get relegated you want to get the games out of the way and start planning for next year.

"But the players have responded really well to going down. The only occasion we’ve really let ourselves down was the Liverpool match.

"Put yourself in the position the players are in: they’re playing in the knowledge that even if they’re successful it doesn’t mean anything and that is hard for them."
