Blackpool manager Ian Holloway says the Seasiders are still hopeful of securing the services of the striker on a loan deal from Newcastle.

Pool made a £1m offer for the 20-year-old in the recent transfer window, which was accepted by Mike Ashley, but a deal failed to materialise because Ranger waited for "better offers".

Offers that didn't come, although Birmingham showed interest ... but only for a loan deal.

Ashley has insisted that he wants Ranger out of St James' Park ... for good ... not on a loan deal, but the transfer window is closed so that is not going to happen.

He could bite the bullet and let him go to Blackpool, with the hope he impresses and the club will buy him in January.

Chairman Karl Oyston remains in talks with the Newcastle and is trying to arrange some sort of deal for the young hitman.

Holloway: "I don't like talking about other people's players but my chairman has been talking to them constantly, though nothing has materialised yet."
