Hughton signed both players during his time in charge at St James' Park and is considering a summer reunion as he looks to bolster his Birmingham squad.
Newcastle have also circulated the name of winger Routledge to other clubs.
The winger spent part of last season on loan at Championship winners QPR, but is seen as surplus requirements at St James’ Park and has been offered out to clubs
Routledge joined QPR on loan from January and scored five times in his 20 appearances for the club as they won the Championship, but is surplus to requirements at St James' Park.
QPR boss Neil Warnock has said in the past that he hoped to keep Routledge but allegedly no deal could be agreed.
