The full-back was lacking match fitness, but he put in a fabulous 90 minutes at Wrexham in midweek.

Lee Clark could not hide his delight after his Reserve side crushed Liverpool 4-1 at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.

The Toon reserve-team boss watched his side take apart a Liverpool outfit containing Jerzy Dudek, Jermaine Pennant, Boudewijn Zenden and Robbie Fowler.

Two goals from Albert Luque and one each from James Troisi and Carl Finnigan sealed a comfortable win. Not only was Clark pleased to see Luque show his capabilities, but Olivier Bernard gained more match experience.

Bernard complete 90 minutes and is hoping for a recall to first-team duty.

Clark: "Olly got a good 90 minutes under his belt and is edging closer to his target. That's what you use these games for."
