Bellamy recalled by Wales

Earlier in the season the forward was the subject of a high-profile club versus country row, with Wales insisting on playing him when United claimed that he was injured.

Now though Hughes has decided to risk Sir Bobby’s wrath by naming him in the squad for the friendly against Scotland on February 18.

Also named in the squad is Gary Speed, but there is no sign of ex-Mag Lee Clark, whose background the Welsh FA were reported to be looking into to discover whether or not he was eligible to play for Wales.

Just for the record, two weeks ago Bellamy said: "I've missed a massive amount of football this season, but it's not over yet. There is still a lot of this season to be played.

"I owe Newcastle everything and my main priority has to be them. I have a major commitment to the club. I have to rule myself out of any international selection, until at least the summer."
