Bellamy now facing lesser charges

A hearing at Cardiff Magistrates Court, at which the player wasn’t present, heard that the prosecution had reviewed the evidence and decided to withdraw two charges of racially aggravated harassment and replace them with one charge of using abusive or insulting words or behaviour, which were racially aggravated and a second charge of using abusive or insulting words or behaviour.

Bellamy’s lawyers did not enter a plea on his behalf for the new charges and he was granted unconditional bail ahead of the next hearing on September 4.

While the truth of the matter is yet to emerge the possibility of a lengthy trial adversely affecting our season has now all but gone.
