Bellamy hit by FA charge

Bellamy was reported to the FA by incompetent referee Andy D’Urso for confronting the match officials at the end of the game alongside Alan Shearer and coach John Carver.

While we can’t really condone players abusing the referee the incident should be put into context – D’Urso had just given a display that Uriah Rennie would be ashamed of.

The FA always back match officials in this kind of situation so it looks like Bellamy will receive a two or three match ban - unless of course they decide that it was only as serious as Dennis Bergkamp stamping on an opponent at which point he’ll escape with a fine.

It’s about time the club’s had some form of serious complaints procedure against referees – all of them make the occasional error, the real problem is with the two or three referees who consistently ruin games by their gross incompetence.
