Joey Barton: “The foundations are there, and there’s a chance, if we beat West Brom, to finish in a healthy league position.

“But we have to build on that next season – there is no point resting on our laurels.

“We’ve done well this season, and now we need to kick on to give the fans and this football club the success it deserves.

“It’ll be nice to send the fans away for the summer.

“It is a conundrum, really. Sometimes you can’t wait for a season to be over and done with, but from my perspective, I’m really enjoying playing and don’t want the season to end.

“Hopefully, results go our way and we can finish in a respectable league position for this football club.

“I don’t think it needs me to say how good our fans are, and we saw it again against Chelsea.

“Thankfully, we were able to reward them with an equaliser, which we deserved.

“Considering we went to Chelsea with a lot of young lads in the team, and lads who hadn’t played a lot, it was a good result.

“We have (Cheik) Tiote, Nobby Nolan, Bestie (Leon Best), Danny Guthrie all out. Hopefully, we’ll have them all back next season, add to it, and be able to kick on.”
