Barcelona eased the pressure on under-fire Louis van Gaal by winning 4-0 at Mallorca, thanks to a Patrick Kluivert hat-trick and a Marc Overmars strike.

The Catalans task was made easier by the referee who dismissed two Mallorca players in the first 25 minutes.

After the game their coach Gregorio Manzano said of linesman Rafa Guerrero: "He is more dangerous than a monkey with a pistol - it seems as if he always ruins the show."

The result sees Barcelona climb to tenth place in Primera Liga, 16 points behind runaway leaders Real Sociedad.

In Italy Inter won 2-1 at Parma, thanks to goals from Luigi di Biagio and Alvaro Recoba, a result that sees them move level on points with rivals Milan at the top of Serie A.

Bayer Leverkusen didn’t play as the Bundesliga is in its winter break.
