Baines Signs For Everton

Yes, we reported yesterday the "life-long Evertonian" used to stand on the Kop to support his beloved Reds, but that will not stand in the way of a move to Goodison Park.

Wigan manager Chris Hutchings has accepted the reasons for Baines wanting a move away from the Latics, and playing beside Titus Bramble (pictured) was probably one of them.

Everton are expected to unveil the 22-year-old left-back as their latest signing later on Tuesday once the formalities of a £5million move are completed.

Hutchings: "He has done a fantastic job for this club after coming through the system.

"He was brought up here and knows a lot of people but sometimes you need to make a change in your life.

"The timing does not help us to be honest but we have been looking at left-backs and that will continue.

"The situation with Leighton has rumbled on and we would have liked it sorted out earlier.

"But we have to move on. We would like to bring someone else in but I do not know if that will happen."

Baines: "I'd like to thank all the staff at Wigan.

"I've had six fantastic years here and it was a really tough decision to leave that behind. This is the club who have given me the opportunity to make it in the game.

"It's been a real adventure here and it's one I'll never forget but I need a fresh challenge.

"I think the team will do well under Chris Hutchings and I'm sure the supporters will get the success they deserve."
