The tournament also features Chelsea, Birmingham and the Malaysian national team and takes place in Kuala Lumpur in July.

We face Birmingham on July 24 while Chelsea play Malaysia the following day with the winners meeting in the final on July 27.

The event is the first official FA Premier League tournament to take place outside England and is really little more than a marketing event to increase pay-per-view television revenues in the Far East.

But not wishing to rock the boat Sir Bobby and Alan Shearer are pleased to be taking part in the event, at least according to the press release issued by the Premier League.

Sir Bobby Robson said: "While we are thrilled to be among the teams coming out for this first-ever tournament, we are going to Malaysia to win the tournament - for fans in Asia as well as those back home in Newcastle."

While Alan Shearer is quoted as saying: "It is going to be a great match-up in Malaysia. We are excited to be invited and we are looking to be winners of the inaugural cup."
