Newcastle United's all-time record goalscorer Alan Shearer has seemingly shared his scepticism over claims made by club owner Mike Ashley that a deal to sell the Magpies could be done by January.
Speaking to Sky News, Ashley revealed that talks with an interested party were 'more progressed' than they've ever been, and that he wanted to sell the club before the January transfer window.
When asked if it was realistic that could happen, he replied: "It's possible. Realistic is maybe too strong a word. Hopefully, we can carry on the good form – the just recent good form – and we can get the deal done."
But Shearer, who has openly criticised Ashley for his running of the club, took to Twitter and seemingly voiced his scepticism over the claim by asking if was the 'January transfer window approaching again is it?'
Ashley has not signed a player on a permanent basis in the January window since 2016 when he allowed Steve McClaren to bring in Andros Townsend, Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saviet.
