Suggesting that he is ready and willing to listen to offers ... most notably from Spurs ... who have been testing the water as they know they are on the brink of losing Dimitar Berbatov.

Man Utd are expected to conclude the deal for Berbatov today.

Former Toon defender Jonathan Woodgate has issued a rallying call ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, by suggesting the "new face" would help them move into Premiership's Top Four.

Berbatov has handed in a transfer request and did not play against Sunderland last week.

Woodgate: "We haven't won the last two games and that's not down to Berba, it's down to ourselves.

"If we sell guys like Keane and Berbatov then they will buy top players to replace them.

"It keeps going in circles but maybe we have to stop selling.

"I'm not using Spurs as a stepping stone - they're going to be a top club. The players can't help it if people are sold."

Woodgate played with Owen at Real Madrid, and Ashley's strange decision to wait until after Monday's transfer deadline to talk about a deal has many Toon fans fearing the worst.
