Any Truth In Toon £9m Bid?

... the Daily Mail come up with the story Freddy Shepherd is collecting together £9 million to try and buy West Brom defender Curtis Davies.

Speculation is growing that Glenn Roeder will offer former Ipswich man Titus Bramble for Davies, who West Brom now value at £11 million.

Roeder has had Birmingham central defender Matthew Upson on his hit-list since the summer, so this comes out of the blue. And £11m for a player who is hardly a household name makes you wonder.

Would West Brom boss Tony Mowbray be tempted to sell when his side is pushing for promotion? For that price I'm sure he would! Will Newcastle pay so much? I doubt it very much, but Roeder is certainly in the hunt.

Roeder: "Getting top-class young English defenders like Curtis Davies is proving a tough nut to crack. I have to say he's one of the players we have targeted in the January window, but if we don't get him he has to be a possibility for the summer."
