Anita Backs Dutch Flop

The Dutch frontman is yet to open his account for the Magpies following a January arrival on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach, and his effort (or lack of it) against Everton came into question on Tuesday evening.

He never troubled the Everton central defenders and rambled through a game as though he couldn't wait to get off the pitch.

Thankfully, that lasted only an hour, and he got his wish.

What is this player good at? He has the build and strength but rarely uses it, and he brings back memories of Rob McDonald who we signed from PSV Eindhoven back in 1988.

McDonald was allegedly a "top European striker" then we found out he was born in Hull!

OK, I've nothing against Hull, wasn't Nick Barmby born there?

But I've a lot against Rob McDonald ... he was rubbish!

Anita feels manager Alan Pardew would be advised to activate a clause which allows an £8million summer deal to be pushed through for De Jong ... but many in St James' Park would think twice.

As you can imagine - Anita and De Jong are best of mates.

£8m? You have got to be joking!

Vurnon Anita: "I think Luuk wants to stay beyond the end of the season, and I hope that happens.

"He came in January and, right from the start, he has been doing everything he can to prove himself here at Newcastle.

"He is a very good player, and I think he wants to show everyone that.

"I think he is doing that and I think it would be good for everybody if he could stay past the end of his deal on loan.

"Luuk is working very hard to keep the ball and link up play.

"That is a very important part of the job that he is being asked to perform, and I think he has been doing it well.

"Unfortunately, the balls haven't really fallen for him to have a lot of chances, but I am sure they will come before the end of the season and hopefully he will take them.

"I think he is settling in well. He is working hard, and that is the most important thing."
