Andy Gray Not Convinced Kinnear Is Doing A Good Job!

Andy Gray: "There's no doubt his (Tony Adams) appointment is a bit of a gamble, but he worked under Harry Redknapp for some time, the players know him and there will be a sense of continuity so that will help him.

"On Sunday, Tony comes up against a manager whose appointment really was a surprise.

"If you'd asked me to name 5,000 managers last September I'd never have guessed that Joe Kinnear would get the Newcastle job.

"Since he's been at the club Newcastle have won two out of 11 games and that's hardly a stunning record. They've drawn the last four, but that's not what Newcastle need to be doing, they need to be winning games.

"He has done okay since he's been there, but I don't think he's done anywhere near as well as he would have expected. I think Joe would have been looking to win five of the games he's played, one of them last weekend against Stoke.

"They were winning that game 2-0 and they were unable to see it out, which won't have done him a lot of favours.

"Looking at Sunday's game it wouldn't surprise you if it ended up a draw and Portsmouth didn't have any luck, because that's the way it's been going of late.

"But you would expect Pompey to be able to beat Newcastle at Fratton Park.

"Newcastle must have one of the poorest away records of any team that has consistently been in the Premier League over the last 10 years.

"Like everybody in the bottom half, Newcastle are in a relegation fight, although we won't have a clearer picture of what the bottom of the table is looking like until the end of January, maybe even the end of December.

"But you do still fear for Newcastle. Two wins in 11 is not good enough to steer them clear of that relegation dogfight and they need more than the odd point here, the odd point there."
