Sources in the north east claim Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman is eyeing a temporary deal for the winger.
With Chris Eagles, Lee Chung-Yong and summer signing Rob Hall the only senior options available to Dougie Freedman, it seems the Scot is looking to augment his wide options.
Ameobi spent the second half of last season on loan at Middlesbrough, where he scored once in nine appearances, and could find himself loaned out again for the first half of the new campaign.
