Newcastle gave up a 12-point lead in the Premier League and Manchester United stole the title that year.

And how can we forget Kevin Keegan's "We'd LOVE IT" quote at Elland Road, when Alex Ferguson got the better of him?

Shola Ameobi: “Everyone knows what we’re about now – we’re the team to topple.

“Everyone’s going to give their all against us, as they know we’re the team to catch.

“No games are going to be easy between now and the end of the season.

"We have a lead and we want to build on it – every Newcastle fan knows what happened last time.

“We have to stay focused, like we have been all season, and battle hard, and hopefully our quality will shine through.

“I’ve played eight league games, and half the season’s over, so I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

“I want to play in every game.

"Every striker has his own agenda, and I’m eager to get as many games as I can between now and the end of the season.

“Hopefully, I can do that, and keep on scoring goals.

"I’m in a rich vein of form either side of the injury, and hopefully I can keep that going.

“I’ve only played eight games, but in the games I have played, it’s been great for me.

“The most important thing is that we keep on winning, and keep on this run we’re on.

“But as a striker, you need to be scoring goals to build your confidence, and thankfully that’s been the case for me this season."
