Ameobi Or Chopra? Who Would You Have?

Last updated : 23 October 2008 By Footy Mad - Editor
Chopra was sold to Cardiff City when he felt he was not making any headway at Newcastle and not given the first team opportunities he felt he deserved.

Ameobi has made an amazing 229 appearances for Newcastle, and has yet to win over the Newcastle fans.

The article was posted by royboy on our messageboard: "Both players have been valued similar over the last few years. Who would you have?"

Some of the replies:

Posted by 9deano: Neither.

Posted by Jonny_Rubber: Chopra is a better natural finisher. But to be honest there isn't much to choose between them at perm level. Both would probably be better off playing a division down.

Posted by NUFC_cj: Agreed Johnny. I used to have a soft spot for Chopra when he was with us and was sad to see he didnt get much of a chance but in the end hes just not that bit of class we needed. He's a good championship player or a decent player for a small club in the PL like sunderland.
Ameobi? Probably about the same.

Posted by localhero87: I don't even think Chopra IS a better natural finisher. He has more passion than Ameobi. Other than that he has nothing. He scores cos he tries hard.
You people seem to forget quickly just what an embarrasment he was for us in the whole period of time he was with us.

Posted by NUFC_cj: Does Ameobi even have emotions?

Posted by Jammy89: Chopra has more passion and i think was the more natural finisher. But imo Ameobi trys harder and plays, even through injury for the team - which is something im not sure Chopra would do
I really don't know on this one

Posted by workid: i like how you are all jumping on the ameobi band wagon cos he scored a goal. if anyone watched him play against Arsenal you would see how much of a waste of space he is. after watching that match i do not now who he is playing another game. he didnt even do great against man city, he got lucky with his goal but thats about it.
there both championship players and ameobi should have went to ipswich while he had the chance.
newcastle is full of has beens and money grabers and the sale of mostly all the players most of them are crap and over payed.
i would keep collicini/beye/bassong/guthrie/jonas/martins
the rest are dead wood and dont give to ****s and only want the money.
i would maybe keep a few others but they needed to perform week in week out.

Posted by Bodey: Screw your bandwagon. My opinion of him has actually gone down through the last couple of years. Ameobi is good enough to be a utilized as a sub. Since the likelihood of keeping all of our striking options throughout the season is slim there is no reason to ditch him unless the reserve team all of a sudden explodes with talent.
