United's second string won 2-1 against Hartlepool United ... thanks to a double from youngster Samuel Ameobi.

United went into yesterday's Totesportcasino.com Cup Group One match knowing they needed a solid win to stay in contention for the knockout stages after starting their campaign with a 3-0 home loss against Sheffield United last month.

UNITED: Krul, Morris, Kadar, Tozer, Lough, Godsmark, Marwood (Newton 62), Doninger (Tavernier 62), Ranger, Ameobi, McCrudden (Inman 46).
