Ameobi Ahead Of £9.5m Winger

Graeme Souness keeps reminding us how the Toon Army will be astonished by the skills of £9.5m left winger Albert Luque. But after a poor start in the black and white stripes, the Toon boss has kept the Spaniard on the bench in the Magpies' last two games, prefering striker Shola Ameobi out wide on the wing.

Ameobi has no complaints and is hoping to keep his place for Saturday's game against West Ham at Upton Park.

Ameobi: "It's hard – it's not something I'm used to. But I'm just glad to be in the team and playing. I feel as a player I can do a job on the left wing – I can definitely adapt.

"I'm just happy to be in there and playing, to be honest. That's what I want to be doing – playing football. I want to be involved in every game, and (against Arsenal) I gave everything I had.

"That's the least I want to do for the manager for keeping faith in me."
