The club issued a brief statement confirming the transfer on Monday night: "Arrangements for the transfer of Darren Ambrose from Ipswich Town Football Club Company Ltd (in administration) to Newcastle United were concluded this evening."
The fee for the 19-year-old is believed to be just £1million, with the Tractor Boys being forced to accept a figure way below their own valuation because of their perilous financial position.
There is no news yet on whether the England Under-21 international will, as widely predicted, go back to Portman Road on loan for the rest of the season.
