Allardyce: "We had a complete new defence for the start of the season, and four members of that defence were from abroad.

"My hope was that we kept all those players fit all the time to gel them together.

"Unfortunately, the biggest injuries we have had are in those areas and that is, for me, why we have conceded so many goals that we could have avoided, particularly away from home.

"It had been 13 months since we had a clean sheet away from home - I know I have only been here three or four months - but also at home, it has been a long time since we didn't concede a goal as well.

"That is the basis to build from, that is a solid foundation that gives you more and more results.

"That is what we have to keep working on without losing our cutting edge in the frontline."

"Like everything else, you always feel much more confident, much better when you have given good performances and good performances have ended up giving you some results.

"Performances and results increase the unity among the lads."
