Allardyce Under Pressure?

The Newcastle boss has had 15 years in the job ... and he has still to lift his first cup.

Eyebrows were raised when he first took the job at Newcastle and said it could take five years to bring success. If he has not won something in four years ... I cannot see him being here for a fifth.

Allardyce: "I read an article in the paper which said the average life of a manager in this country now is two years based on how many people have lost their jobs - and I think 13 have already gone this year in all divisions.

"It is a much more volatile job now than ever before because the expectation outweighs the reality in nearly all divisions, and that brings more and more sackings every year now.

"I have been doing it for 15 years at various clubs continuously and I have gathered a huge amount of experience to go and take whatever club I have got forward by using my management techniques and style to make that football club, whatever its resources are, maximise them.

"That's really the key to making sure you do not come under the sort of pressure those lads are coming under now.

"There are too many distracting factors which take your focus away from doing the job you are asked to do, especially in the Premier League now.

"You have to make sure you bat all those off and don't let them distract you and make the right decisions at the right time, deal with the pressure whichever way it comes and believe in yourself and the staff working with you.

"That is one of the key areas in managing through difficult periods and overcoming them to carry on."
