Allardyce Ready To Pay Top Dosh For Barton

Barton has a clause in his contract ... similar to Michael Owen at Newcastle ... set at £5.5million.

However, an unknown club is also set to make an offer, City are holding out for the full amount. Mind you, the very term "unknown" could simply be a way to bump up the money.

West Ham's move for Newcastle skipper Scott Parker could play a major role in his club's pursuit of Barton for obvious reasons. If Parker stays ... why would we need a replacement? If he goes, Allardyce will have £7m to do a deal with.

Barton is certain to leave City after his training ground bust-up with team-mate Ousmane Dabo. The Huyton-born midfielder is keen on a move to St James' Park, and City know there are many managers who wouldn't touch Barton with a barge-pole.

Allardyce will be desperate to tie up the deal quickly to land a man he rates highly. Barton's past is controversial, but the new Magpies boss is famous for bringing the best out of his players.

Just as Sir Bobby got the best out of Craig Bellamy, Allardyce sees no problem in Barton.
