Allardyce Not On Same Wavelength As Shepherd

I don't argue with the man ... and I'm sure one day someone will do just that to scrap this ridiculous system.

But Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce sees it in a different light and says he will be a happy man once the transfer window shuts - provided he has got what he wants.

The 52-year-old has already signed Mark Viduka, Joey Barton, David Rozehnal and Geremi, and more could come to St James' Park. Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen and Manchester United full-back Gabriel Heinze are just two he has tried to sign.

Allardyce: "There is speculation about every player moving to your club or moving away from your club, everybody experiences that at this time of the season.

"You only need one phone call from an agent and all of a sudden, you are either buying him or you are selling him.

"We have to live with that. It's a very difficult time to live with, but because we have a short window, it makes it very volatile indeed.

"Once that window is shut, we all breathe a sigh of relief if we have got what we wanted.

"If we haven't, then we begin to worry."
