Allardyce Faces Liverpool Backlash!

There are times in life when you wished you hadn't open your gob ... and for Big Sam ... the day he started preaching about winning medals (and he hasn't won one in his entire football career) was the day he would rather forget.

The Newcastle manager said the Spaniard would have been "very lucky to be in a job" if he had not reached two Champions League finals.

Allardyce: "They have had some very, very poor finishes in the Premier League.

"While they are a very good Champions League team, they are not a Premier League-winning team yet.

"They don't have that mentality to win that yet.

"Being a foreigner, Rafa doesn't understand it's supposed to be Premier League first and Champions League second."

In the last three seasons Liverpool have finished fifth once and third twice, which Allardyce says is NOT success. But he says Bolton finishing sixth, eighth and seventh, IS success.

And the Liverpool press are up in arms about it!

One reports today: "The fact is Benitez landed the Liverpool job because he had already won the Spanish league title twice and the UEFA Cup with Valencia.

"And since taking over at Anfield has won the FA Cup, the European Super Cup and the Champions League as well as coming runner-up in the League Cup, the latter being the only feat Allardyce has matched.

"By the way, you might have noticed the Liverpool training kit does not carry 18 stars for the number of league titles won by the club. It sports five stars, one for each European Cup win which sets the club apart as by far the most successful in British history.

"It is why Allardyce should think twice before criticising men such as Benitez, who clearly has built a squad this summer with the intention of encompassing all major competitions.

"And especially when Benitez has the perfect riposte - Show me your medals."
